MRX PROGRAM INSTALLATION
Press F6 or click this window with a mouse to select this file for viewing.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
System Requirements.
Minimum System requirements for MRX are:
- MS-DOS 4.00
- a 286 PC 100% IBM compatible
- a Sound Blaster Pro/SB16 Audio Card or PC Speaker
- VGA Video
- access to DOS Interrupt 15h Services 83h and 86h
- access to JoyStick Port
Installation.
To install MRX to your hard drive, expand the compressed file and from
the directory containing the MRX files:
INSTALL
Installation Requirements.
The following information is required for installation:
Program Path : Path to Program Executable Files.
Printer Port : LPT1, LPT2, COM1 or NONE.
The supplied disk must be inserted when ever the install program is
activated. A help file is displayed in the lower window, press ALT+F6 to
select this file for viewing. You may use a mouse with the scroller bars or
the arrow / page up and down keys to navigate.
Sound Blaster Settings.
MRX utilises DOS Drivers for the SOUND BLASTER, these must be
located in the directory pointed to by the SOUND environment variable
(as displayed in the sample AUTOEXEC.BAT file). The following lines are
typical of those required for the operation of a PC with a SoundBlaster
card:
Sound Blaster 16 bit card AUTOEXEC.BAT settings,
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 T6
SET SOUND=C:\SB16
C:\SB16\SBCONFIG.EXE /S
C:\SB16\SB16SET /M:200 /VOC:200 /CD:200 /MIDI:200 /LINE:200
Sound Blaster Pro settings (8 bit) AUTOEXEC.BAT settings,
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 T4
SET SOUND=C:\SBPRO
D:\SBPRO\SBP-SET /M:12 /VOC:12 /CD:12 /FM:12
NOTE: This is a sample only, your settings will depend upon the
addresses set for your installation (particularly the SET BLASTER line).
See your Sound Blaster Manual for detailed instructions. If the sound card
is not correctly configured or not present, the PC speaker will be used. See
the listing About... from the HELP menu for the dected sound card settings.
Running under Windows or Windows 95.
MRX will run under Windows or Windows 95, however program operation
may be affected by multi-tasking. This may affect program timing and/or the
total morse speed. While it is recommended that MRX be run from DOS,
satisfactory results can be obtained by setting the IDLE SENSITIVITY (in
Properties - Misc) to LOW for Windows 95, or setting the FOREGROUND PRIORITY
(in the Program Information File) to 10000 for Windows (3.x). An ICON has
been provided and can be installed through the Properties Manager.
Running under OS2 Warp.
Program operation under OS2 Warp is NOT recommended. Although most
morse utilities will operate, those which utilise VOICE sounding may produce
unpredictable results. It is recommended that you use the DUAL BOOT option
and run MRX from DOS.
Morse Speed Accuracy
If the morse speed is inaccurate, choose F9 and sound the PARIS.TST
file from the Plain Directory, at 15 WPM (speed settings are 15/80/80).
Observe the time taken to sound the file, at correct sounding speed the
file will take exactly 1 minute from start of sound output to end. If the
speed is inaccurate then adjust the Morse Speed, from the FILE menu. Values
GREATER than 1 (eg 1.2) increase the total morse speed, while values LESS
than 1 (eg. 0.8) will decrease the speed. Experimentation may be required
to achieve an accurate result. Morse Speed OFFSET values must be in the
range of 0.01 to 1.99 inclusive.
Memory Requirements.
MRX requires 480k of free memory in order to perform correctly,
if you have less than 480k free, try running a memory optimising tool
to provide more base memory. If you have less than 480k MRX may report
errors when running Morse Receive (F9).
Morse Transmit.
Your Morse Key should be connected to the Joystick Port located
in the sound card if present.
Joystick pin connections:
Pin 1 to Pin 3 100k ohm resistor
Pin 2 and Pin 4 Morse Key wires
WARNING: Some electronic Morse keys may require that the correct
polarity is observed when connecting to the joystick port. Failure to
observe polarity may result in damage to the keyer or sound card. Consult
your sound card and keyer documentation if doubt exists.
